Monument



Today was a visit to somewhere else I'd never been; the newly reopened Monument in the City of London. It was built between 1671 and 1677, to commemorate the Great Fire of London and celebrate the rebuilding of the City. There are 311 steps to the top and it is the world's tallest free-standing stone column in the world. (Can't ever see getting Sib up to the top!) It's a mere £3 to go in and you get a certificate when you get back down to say that you've done it! As you can see by the photos, today has been what can only described as "grey"...

I'll go up just to get the certificate just so long as I don't have to look over the edge!!!
