Where Did You Get That Hat?

Seems I'm not alone in thinking that my former charge's hat was not her best fashion moment ever ... And the less said about her sister's outfit, the better.

The pair of them looked like the Ugly Sisters. Both trying too hard I think.

I'm giggling at Liz's comment, I think both of their uncle's wives did very well though :-)

Just proves that all the money in the world can't buy you style!

I thought that particular one looked like something out of a Dr. Seuss book. And the hats were honestly the one thing about the whole wedding I didn't get. Is it a British tradition to see who can wear the ugliest or most outlandish hat to an event? Are prizes awarded? What is this ignorant American missing?

My husband nailed it when he said "I bet you can't tell me what Princess Anne was wearing" "Ooh, no" chorused the rest of us, "That's because she is a real lady and wouldn't dream of trying to outshine the bride" said my non royalist non fashionable husband. Beatrice and Eugenie appeared like two tarts on the town. I would expect to see them in Tenby on a hen party weekend, very sad.

Haha - this is funny. I did enjoy seeing all of the hats during the wedding news feed. I'm with Cheri - wondering if this is a British tradition and if hats are commonly worn there for all occassions?

Lots of women wear hats to Weddings in the UK..though it's not as obligatory as it was, some years ago. Some people enjoy being somewhat outrageous in their choices...I think the Princesses' outfits just go to show that having money certainly doesn't mean you have taste! Were they really your former charges?

They really stood out and for all the wrong reasons :( It seems someone somewhere could provide them with fashion direction that compliments their styles and shapes.

They've certainly become one of the main talking points about the wedding. They are both pretty girls and something more simple and elegant would have been far more appropriate. x

For our American friends who asked us about hats: yes, ladies, it is a tradition for a lady to wear a hat to a wedding - especially a royal or society wedding. However, no, it is Not a tradition to try and look as if you are wearing a tv aerial, saucepan, bowl of petunias, salad, half a chicken... on your head!!
As Ladykis said, a Real Lady wears a smart, neat and tidy outfit, which suits her age, figure and social position; it also does not attempt to grab everyone's attention and upstage the bride - this is considered to be Very Bad Form (or Bad Manners, to use a more middle-class phrase!)
I'm afraid that Princesses Bea and Eugenie have very little fashion sense. They continually make appallingly bad fashion choices when they dress - whatever the occasion or outing. I don't usually "bitch", but I can not admire their taste - they don't have any!

Oh these poor girls have no fashion sense at all. The outfits they chose didn't suit them at all. I loved most of the hats but think Philip Tracey (was that his name) should of known this beige one was a bit outrageous especially for a princess. I loved the wedding though, watched it 3 time so far as well as the highlights. Thought Kate and her sister were stunning, this marriage is going to work out, I just feel it....:-)Hugs

I think they get their fashion sense from their mum!
