Finding a Balance

The Boy Child has just begun his two-week long half-term holiday.
During that time I would like him to write in his Holiday Diary every day and to read aloud most days.
School would like him to write up that Science experiment, copy out and learn a verse of the poem For the Fallen by Lawrence Binyon, think up and write out 10 spelling sentences, consolidate his knowledge about King Midas, begin an Art Journal, complete a 6 page personalised for him Holiday Homework booklet, read daily, learn 10 spellings and consolidate his knowledge of the 2 and 3 times tables.
I'm thinking it's way too much.
What say you?

sounds like school outsourcing its work to Mum - whatever happened to resting the brain ?!

I think it's way too much.

My dad was a Headmaster and he didn't believe in homework. Never did his pupils any harm

That's more than our Year 7s get! Half term is half term, a chance to rest, recharge and have a break before the next 6 weeks.it seems way too much to me, and as a parent I can honestly say that I would never have managed to get my boy to do all that when he was that age.

That is way to much. Even my year 10 daughter (who gets alot of homework) would bulk at that. Don't get me started on homework. They come under enough pressure as they get older so they should be left to enjoy their childhood. I have a struggleto get my 10year old to do homework and sometimes we both end up in tears! Why can't children be left to be children any more! (Now getting off my soapbox.)

Far too much! Make half term a week and use the other week as part of the school term. Too much pressure doesn't help anyone.

I think they should have shorter holidays then the teachers could fit all that into their teaching time and not palm it off on parents. I would be speaking to the school when they go back. Hope he has a good week with Granny xxx

I would object to that amount too and probably struggle to fit it in with holiday plans. My ASD child just wouldn't be able to cope with that amount!

Wow - they call that a holiday!?!

Yes I would say that is far too much. I agree with Liz.

So much work that it will have detrimental effects, ultimately squelching a love of learning.

You did say holiday! What kind of holiday is that - it is way too much. I'm liking your idea much better.
