I like this. It jumped out at me today because it reminded me of something I read last night, from Cicero "For what is the worth of human life, unless it is woven into the life of our ancestors by the records of history?"

This is very apposite right now, in my life, Ruth. My father has always said he has no sense of connection to, or interest in, his ancestors or indeed to those who come after him; it's good to read that I am not alone in feeling part of a thread myself.
