Late yesterday afternoon, I had the great privilege, alongside 300+ other mourners,
of saying farewell to our beloved Grandad P.
It's not often that you hear the words wonderful and funeral in the same sentence,
but that's what it was.
A celebration in the true sense of the word.
Of a man who gave his life to the service of this country.
Of a man who touched the lives of thousands of individuals.
Of a man who was the living embodiment of love, loyalty, duty, honour and faith.
I hesitated about taking a photo of the hearse at the end of the service.
But then I thought how I'd always taken a photo of Grandad P every time we'd seen him.
And given that it was the last time I would see him, it seemed right and proper.
His story is very much intertwined with my story.
For that, I am forever grateful.

A Diary and a Pen Still Equals a Planner

I love the planners that have popped up
in the scrapbooking world of late.
But I'm not tempted (well, maybe a little) ...
I'll stick to my diary and a pen.
For more than twenty years, I have had an annual diary from Smythson.
It's been a yearly treat to myself.
(Which is no more expensive than some of the planners I've seen on t'internet.)
I add sticky stars for birthdays and anniversaries
and sticky dots for school holidays.
The diary goes in my handbag and the old ones are kept in a small drawer.
Planners?  Diary and a pen? Electronically?

Snap #2

Helena has a new photographic theme for 2016:
Snap, a visually linked group of 2 to 4 images.
This month has seen me using the InterCity train network a lot.
I need a cuppa and a good book and I'm all set.
You can see more Snap images here.

Scrap Happy

It's raining.
I had an hour before leaving on the school run.
What to do?
Make a start on a page for the 2016 album.
Finish off a page for the Texas 2015 album.
Complete two more days in the December Daily album.
Time well spent.

Memorandum Monday

Monday has rolled around again, and that means it's time to
join in with the lovely Sian and
share something that I've learnt over the weekend.
Normality is reassuring, whether it be watching Star Wars | Return of the Jedi
under a blanket with The Boy Child or walking the dog.
You can see what Sian's discovered over the weekend here.

Right Now ...

Right now ... I'm not here.
Sure, there are posts going live, but I'm not really here.
Right now ... I'm where I need to be.
Right now ... it's hard, so hard and yet ...
Right now ... I have the opportunity to say out loud what's in my heart.
Right now ... it's enough.  It has to be.

Catching up with Cachirulo

He's a difficult wee boy to pin down, our Cachirulo.
In the last quarter of 2015, he visited Barcelona, Colombia and South Africa!
We caught up with him last weekend at his Granny's birthday tea,
and we'll see him again in a few weeks for his own birthday tea.
Where has that year gone?

Helena has a new photographic theme for 2016:
Snap, a visually linked group of 2 to 4 images.
These images show the arrival of winter in the 'burbs.
Frost on the car's windscreen and ice on the lake in the park.
You can see more here.

That Was Christmas ...

I was away from home in the run up to Twelfth Night,
so I asked The Brainy One if he could pack away Christmas.
This is what I came home to.
This is how it looked after I had devoted half an hour to it.
Now, if only I could find a home for that 7' tree ...

Memorandum Monday

Monday has rolled around again, and that means it's time to
join in with the lovely Sian and
share something that I've learnt over the weekend.
You only need the lightest covering of snow to make
it feel like there's been a blizzard if you are The Boy Child.

Regular readers know that I walk everywhere.
And if I can't walk, I use public transport.
I haven't driven our car in over a year,
and that was only to move it from the road to the drive.
But recently I needed to drive.
Someone loaned me their car.
I drove it in bad weather.
I drove it on the motorway.
I drove it in the dark.
I drove it without someone riding shotgun.
I reverse parked.
I couldn't parallel park for toffee.
Did I enjoy being behind the wheel again?
Not really.
I did it because the end justified the means.
Fortitude: mental strength in facing difficulty courageously

Was This You?

I'm looking for Pauline.
Because I want to say thank you.
Because she sent two parcels through the post,
one for me and one for The Boy Child.
Just because.
The kindness of strangers continues to overwhelm me.

Gaming Party

When you are nine, it seems the thing you want most is a Gaming Party.
A what?
Two twenty somethings with a van full of computer consoles.
A dozen nine year olds.
Throw in cake, chocolate biscuits and fruit for good measure.
Organised chaos.

Our Beloved Grandad P

Our beloved Grandad P passed away on Saturday, 9 January.
He was a unique and special man.
It was our privilege to know him and to love him.
We will miss him terribly.

A Short Intermission

The thing with blogging about the every day is knowing when not to over share.
The Brainy One doesn't really like being written about.
The Boy Child doesn't really have an opinion either way, but that will come.
There's something happening where I am a helpless onlooker.
Where a request has been made for that story not to be shared on any form of social media.
So I'm taking a week away.
A week to be in the here and now.
A week to regroup.
A week to recognise which stories are blog worthy and which aren't.
See you soon.

Blog Review | 2015

366 posts in 2015.
A large drop in recorded followers. Although disappointing, it's also understandable.
My daily life is a round of sameness.  I think it's boring.  It doesn't surprise me that others do too.
232,345 page views in the history of this blog, approximately.

Projects I blogged about throughout the year:
Project Life: Year 5 of documenting the mundane every day. It was also the final year for me, as storage space is now severely limited.
One Little Word: the fifth year of choosing a word and the word for 2015 was give.  Our word for 2016 is here.
Him | The Abridged Version: Four years on and I was able to finally complete this project for The Boy Child.  He loved it.
December Daily: the sixth year of this project and it's still my favourite.  I still have days 20-25 to complete.
Scrapbook pages.  Plain and simple.
Plans for 2016 are a little different than previous years.
I'm planning blog breaks here and there, and will no longer be posting at the weekends.
There will be tales of travel,
there will be stories about The Boy Child,
and it's possible there may be tales of heartbreak.
However this new year turns out,
I hope you'll join me as I make my way through it.
